One year conversion course designed for graduates of Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering and Naval Architecture looking upgrade their Careers as Engineers on ships. The course leads to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (CoC), awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, after six months of sea service, enabling the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant Navy Vessels (Ships) anywhere in the world. It is the gateway for Mechanical & Naval Architecture Graduates to enter Merchant Navy.
The course focuses on technical aspects related to Marine Engineering towards operations and propulsion of a ship. The training procedure for this course includes rigorous one year presea training for merchant navy molding attitude, resolve and performance ability of student cadets. Curriculum involves all aspects of Ship Board Machinery along with its science of sailing.
After completing GME course, one can start a career in the Merchant Navy as a Marine Engineer. After relevant years of sea-service and clearing exam modules with Mercantile Marine Department, you can rise through the ranks and become a Chief Engineer.
