Overview
General Purpose Rating Course (GP Rating) enable prospective candidates with eligibility to become Merchant Navy Cadets and further offers general employment as Ratings onboard sailing vessels. Successful cadets have option to pursue profession either on Engineside or Deckside as per their ability / willingness. Can appear for CoC exams after 6 months of sailing & training completion as per Onboard TAR Book. Starting as Ordinary Seamen (OS), opportunities exists for pursuing higher rank exams after 36 months of sailing experience. Additionally, GP Rating Course at SNMA had been specialised to pursue jobs as fitters/ welders on Offshore Platforms/ Dry Docks also globally.
